Sorrento in Peachy Lemons
Hi, my name’s Lou, welcome to Bronny the Label!

Why “Bronny the Label” you ask? Bronwyn, AKA Bronny, was my late Mother and she taught me to sew when I was about 9. Our first project together was making a beautiful quilt for the Kosovo refugees, which was a topic at school at the time. I was tasked with cutting out the squares and sewing them together (I’m sure you can imagine how wonky they were!). Mum then completed it with the backing and batting. From then on, every time a family member or close friend welcomed a new baby, they received a quilt!

Mum was a keen sewer and had her own upholstery and costume hire businesses, for which she made over 500 costumes. She even painstakingly made my first ball dress; a lace up corset top and full tulle skirt (you can imagine the time it took!).

I took up sewing at high school, but only ever really learned the basics. I never learned to follow a pattern, rather making up my own, which is still the case these days. Mum was around to share her knowledge when I was younger, but she sadly lost a hard fought battle to breast cancer when I was 18. Bronny the label is a tribute to her chaotic energy and enthusiasm for all things bright and wonderful that she passed on to me.

Over the past couple of years I have re-kindled my love for sewing. I started with making curtains for my camper van and then began making presents for people’s birthdays and Christmas. More recently, I started making my own matching outfits. During lockdown earlier this year, I reassessed my life and figured out what it is I’m truly passionate about; sewing!  I started experimenting with old bed sheets and blankets and began watching YouTube tutorials to learn new tips and tricks. And here I am today, with a small but ever growing clothing business. Even though I am mainly self taught, the bones of my sewing knowledge was inherited from my mother and she is the reason I have pursued this passion.

I am grateful to my friends and family for giving me the push I needed and the support required along the way to turn my dreams into a reality.
